Qualifying Life Events Explained

Outside of Open Enrollment, you may be able to enroll in or change Marketplace coverage if you experience a qualifying life event. Common examples include losing other health coverage, getting married, having a baby, or certain changes in residence. Other circumstances, such as divorce, may qualify when they result in a loss of health coverage.

Special Enrollment Periods usually have a limited window, often 60 days from the event, and you may need to provide documentation. Acting quickly helps you avoid a gap in coverage.

Not every life change qualifies, and rules can vary. If you think a recent change might apply, it's worth confirming your options rather than assuming you have to wait for the next Open Enrollment.
